In her work, FlorenceNightingale describes how she envisions the expanded duties of the nurse in caring for patients needs, and she urges a new and more responsible role for nurses - one that requires proper training and medical knowledge. Nightingale became well known during the Crimean War, while caring for wounded British soldiers. She was portrayed as the "Lady with the Lamp" in the press, becoming a symbol of the new ideas of Victorian medical hygiene and patient care.

A scarce early edition in very good condition, with firmbinding; clean interior; bookplate to ffep; small scuff to paper of rear ffep.
